Terms of Service
Lab Grimoire — Terms of Service
Version: 2026-05-11 · Effective: 2026-05-11
This document governs your use of
labgrimoire.comand any sub-domain operated by Lab Grimoire (the "Service"). It is legally binding. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Acceptance
By creating an account, accessing any logged-in feature, or downloading any analysis result that carries a Lab Grimoire fingerprint, you agree to these Terms.
2. The Service
Lab Grimoire provides browser-based scientific image-analysis tools (currently dot-blot densitometry, with more in development). Feature availability depends on your subscription tier:
| Tier | Inclusions |
|---|---|
| Anonymous | Manual ROI placement, mean intensity readout, 5 result downloads per IP per day. |
| Free (registered) | Same as Anonymous, but the daily quota is per-account and persists across networks. |
| Lab Pro | Adds automatic dot detection, full quantification (background correction, CTCF, optical density, rolling-ball subtraction), 50 downloads/day. |
| Institution | Adds batch analysis, REST API, multi-seat (≤ 5) API keys, 500 downloads/day, and prioritised support. |
Tier definitions and quotas may be amended on 30 days' notice; existing subscribers receive the announced changes at renewal, not retroactively.
3. Your account
3.1 You must provide a valid email address and a password of reasonable strength.
3.2 You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials. Lab Grimoire is not liable for losses arising from unauthorised use of your account if the unauthorised access resulted from your failure to keep credentials confidential.
3.3 One account per individual. Sharing credentials between people violates these Terms. Institution tier supports multiple seats explicitly; do not work around this.
4. Acceptable use
You agree NOT to:
(a) Reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code, algorithms, or internal data formats of the Service, including but not limited to the WebAssembly engine served at /api/v1/tools/dotblot/engine and any client-side bundles.
(b) Strip, alter, or obscure the user-fingerprint header embedded in CSV / PNG / report exports.
(c) Redistribute, republish, sublicense, sell, lease, or otherwise transfer the Service or any analysis output to a third party as a substitute service.
(d) Use the Service to process data you are not legally entitled to process, including but not limited to copyrighted images, regulated health information without proper authorisation, or images obtained via unlawful means.
(e) Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service, or breach any security or authentication mechanism, except with prior written authorisation from Lab Grimoire (a coordinated-disclosure programme is available on request).
(f) Use automated means to exceed announced rate limits or to abuse the anonymous-tier quota by IP rotation, residential proxies, or similar.
5. Intellectual property and reverse-engineering damages
5.1 The Service, including the WebAssembly engine, the JavaScript wrapper, the visual design, and the documentation, is the exclusive property of Lab Grimoire or its licensors. Subscription grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for its intended purpose.
5.2 The algorithms implemented in the WebAssembly engine constitute valuable trade secrets. A breach of clause 4(a) — including but not limited to publishing decompiled source, sharing extracted algorithms, or releasing a derivative implementation — entitles Lab Grimoire to liquidated damages of fifty thousand United States dollars (USD $50,000) per incident, in addition to any other remedy available at law. The parties agree this amount is a reasonable pre-estimate of harm given the difficulty of quantifying actual damages from algorithm extraction.
5.3 The fingerprint embedded in every export uniquely traces the export to the originating account or visitor session. Possession of an exported file constitutes prima facie evidence that the originating party shared or leaked it.
6. Privacy and data residency
6.1 The Service performs all image analysis in the user's browser. Uploaded images are not transmitted to Lab Grimoire servers.
6.2 Account-related data (email, password hash, tier, subscription state) is stored on Cloudflare's global infrastructure (D1 database). Quota counters are stored in Cloudflare KV. Auditable logs (download events, engine loads) include IP address and User-Agent.
6.3 The full Privacy Policy is incorporated by reference: see /legal/privacy-policy/.
7. Subscription, billing, and cancellation
7.1 Lab Pro and Institution subscriptions are billed by Lemon Squeezy (or its successor processor) on the schedule presented at checkout. Lab Grimoire does not directly handle card data.
7.2 Cancellation through the customer portal stops the next renewal; current-period access remains active until period end. Refunds for partial periods are at Lab Grimoire's discretion and are not guaranteed.
7.3 Failure of automatic renewal results in tier downgrade to Free at period end. Downgraded users retain account history and can re-subscribe at any time.
7.4 Full subscription terms are in /legal/subscription-agreement/.
8. Termination
8.1 You may terminate by deleting your account from the billing portal at any time.
8.2 Lab Grimoire may suspend or terminate your account for material breach of these Terms (clause 4 in particular), abuse, fraud, or non-payment. We will provide notice and a remediation window where reasonable.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". Scientific outputs are computational results; you are responsible for interpreting them appropriately, including peer review, replication, and any required regulatory or ethics approval. Lab Grimoire makes no warranty that the Service is fit for any particular research, clinical, or diagnostic purpose.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lab Grimoire's aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid in the twelve months preceding the claim, or one hundred United States dollars (USD $100), whichever is greater. Indirect, consequential, special, incidental, exemplary, or punitive damages are excluded.
11. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Taiwan (Republic of China). Disputes arising under them are submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Taipei District Court (台北地方法院), without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection venue available to consumers in their place of residence.
12. Changes
We may revise these Terms; the version string in the front-matter changes when we do. Material changes will be announced 30 days in advance via email and on labgrimoire.com/changelog/. Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
